- Tom is a field biologist and long-time birder who grew up in Pennsylvania. He has worked on a variety of ornithological research projects across the western hemisphere, including studying desert land birds in Arizona and California, migrant songbirds in Cape May, godwits in Canada and Chile, and swallows in New York and Belize. Tom’s love of birds and birding stems from a fascination with migration, and he is perhaps happiest when standing in one place watching migrants stream past him. Tom is also enchanted by seabirds and the ocean in general, and has spent the past several years focused on pelagic seabirds off the Atlantic coast of North America, working on several NOAA research vessels as the senior ornithologist.
