The Urban Birder takes Travis for a spin

Travis has had a lot of celebrity hosts to date, but David Lindo, the Urban Birder, is the first from the UK to take Travis for a spin. David is a writer, broadcaster, speaker and bird guider. Most of all, David is a birder on a mission, and that mission is to get people in urban environs looking up, and seeing the birds around them.

Leica Sport Optics first met David Lindo at the 3rd Focus on Diversity conference in McAllen, Texas, where David shared his Urban Birder program with attendees and lead workshops geared towards urban birding programs here in the States. David was already a card-carrying Leica fan but he really enjoyed seeing some of the digiscoping capabilities that were new to him, like Phonescoping with the iPhone 5s PhoneSkope adapter. David snapped this beautiful shot of a Common Pauraque on our first outing together at Quinta Mazatlan.

Adapters for smartphones are particularly appealing to the Urban Birder since most urbanites have a smartphone in their pocket at all times (okay, most people have a smartphone in their pockets at all times…). After Focus on Diversity, David (and Leica) continued on to the 20th annual Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival where he both delivered a rousing presentation on his work and his book, The Urban Birder, and co-lead some of the great field trips that have made this festival world renowned.

David enthusiastically brought Travis with him to the world famous King Ranch complex where they saw plenty of great birds together. While they didn’t add any new birds to Travis’s list, as any good host, Travis was happy to show his friend from across the pond some lifers. Keep an eye out on travelingtrinovid.com for David’s account of his day with Travis, and also keep an eye out for David’s second book due in 2014! In the words of the Urban Birder David Lindo, always LOOK UP!!
